Habitual actions, states, and what is happening now. The most essential tense.
hablar → hablo, hablas, habla…
Completed past events with a clear start and end. Contrasts with imperfect.
hablar → hablé, hablaste, habló…
Ongoing past states, habits, and background descriptions.
hablar → hablaba, hablabas…
Plans, predictions, and future actions. Added to the infinitive.

'Would' — hypothetical situations, polite requests, si-clause results.

he/has/ha + participle. Recent past still linked to the present moment.

había + participle. What had already happened before another past event.

After querer que, esperar que, ojalá, cuando + future. -AR takes -E endings.

hubiera + participle. Si hubiera sabido… — highest-level subjunctive form.
